The Financial Explorer 1st Issue Editorial Note

We as the students from the Students' Association of Finance (SAF), The Student body of the Department of Finance of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura proudly present to you the first issue of ‘Financial Explorer' - the first ever financial magazine to be produced by a group of students from a local university.

As you are already aware of, the Sri Lankan Finance standards are at a relatively lower standard compared to those of other countries. Therefore, the sole purpose of issuing this magazine is to contribute in our capacity towards improving the Financial Management standards in Sri Lanka thereby, especially focusing on the Corporate Sector. We hope to improve these standards not only by focusing on finance aspects in Sri Lanka but on a more Global context as well.

The name itself provides an insight as to what this magazine contains. But if you're wondering why this magazine is any different from the other financial magazines here are the reasons.

This issue of the magazine encompasses wide areas where financial aspects like Investing, Financing and Banking Relations are concerned. True to its name we have explored these facts from local and international business arena's in order to ensure that you get the very best of today's financial updates.

If that failed to impress you here are a few more facts as to why our magazine happens to be a unique one.

We have included articles from distinguished persons who play a dynamic role in the field of finance, such as Prof. Lalith Samarakoon who is currently a lecturer at the University of St. Thomas in U.S.A This magazine is also enlightened by a research article of Dr. Y.K.Weerakoon Banda,Head of Our Department, Article in relation to Off –shore Banking activities by Prof. Roahan Wickramasinghe, A Descriptive Article on New Basel Accord written by Deputy Director of Central bank Mr. Janaka Kaunaratne, Interview with Mr.Ajamtha Madurapperuma the CEO of Seylan Asset Management Co. Ltd and many skilled students' articles and views on various issues related to finance, from our university.

This magazine would have not been possible without the support and guidance of our dear Lecturers. Also we would like to pay our gratitude to all the students of Department of Finance .We thank you all for your generous contributions. It is much appreciated.
